SUMMARY:AA #988 Interpersonal & Team Communication Skills for School Administrators
DESCRIPTION:VIRTUAL FORMAT \nThis academy will be facilitated using a 4-1/2 hour live virtual format. Also\, the academy includes 2 hours pre-work and submitting an application dissemination plan following the session. \nAcademy Course Description \nThe foundation of professional success lies in understanding yourself\, understanding others and realizing the impact of personal behaviors on others. This academy provides a non-judgmental language for exploring the different workplace styles and behavioral attributes across four primary dimensions. The materials are based on research relating to the makeup of interpersonal dynamics and utilizes an industry standard behavioral-based learning assessment developed by John Wiley & Sons\, Inc. The content is designed to help enhance skills to improve communication\, ease frustration and manage conflict so school administrators and team leaders are more effective in their leadership roles achieving personal effectiveness and team performance. The academy is facilitated using experiential learning techniques. \nSpecifically\, the course content can help administrators and team leaders to: \n*Identify the 4 primary workplace styles and explain their general preferences \n* Understand their own behaviors and learn how to flex behaviors \n* Learn personalized strategies to increase effectiveness \n* Promote appreciation of differences in workplace styles \n* Reduce workplace conflict \nDiSC® Workplace Feedback Report \nAs a prerequisite to attending the academy\, each administrator will complete a DiSC® on-line assessment via the web. A 20-page personalized Feedback Report will be provided for each administrator. The report provides a non-bias view of the administrator’s workplace style\, behaviors and a view of how others may perceive him/her. It serves as a multi-level learning instrument; the feedback in the report covers a broad range of behavior characteristics including: \n* Behavioral strengths and weaknesses \n* Priorities and preferences \n* Motivators and stressors \n* How you react to the different styles \n* Strategies for increased effectiveness \n* Action planning \nInstructors: Gwen Ontalolu\, Michael Onatolu

SUMMARY:AA #1414 - Communicating with Staff Regarding Performance Assessments (and the words to Lower an Evaluation!)
DESCRIPTION:This course takes proven ideas from research and weaves them into practical applications that guide administrators when communicating difficult messages to staff regarding their performance. Participants will learn how to proactively develop an essential foundation of trust\, respect\, and confidentiality in their buildings. Strategic research and tools will be presented to help administrators predict and deal with others’ difficult behavior\, especially when they are under stress. Multiple opportunities will be provided to practice using listening and questioning strategies when confronting others or when resolving conflicts. In addition\, administrators will analyze a difficult situation that they wish to change and develop a confrontation and action plan to help resolve the problem behavior. Strategies will also be provided for dealing with staff that refuses to improve their poor performance. With these tools\, participants will be able to have productive conversations regarding staff performance and deliver difficult messages with confidence and respect. \n \nPresented by Susan Baker
