#12232 Increasing Academic Rigor by Prioritizing SEL
October 15 @ 8:30 am - 2:30 pm$125.00
While many schools have implemented Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) programs and curricula, teachers often struggle to make SEL connections during academic classes. Many teachers feel that an emphasis on SEL takes away from valuable class time and lowers expectations of academic rigor in the classroom.
However, nothing could be further from the truth. A classroom that prioritizes SEL during academic learning actually empowers students to perform at higher levels of rigor by teaching them to recognize and manage the stress that would normally hold them back.
In this session, participants will:
- Learn about the impact of stress on the human body and brain and the effect that can have on student ability to process information
- Reflect upon examples of SEL impacts during academic experiences
- Explore several strategies for identifying and addressing that stress response in students during academic activities.
Audience is K-12 Teachers and Administrators.
