This workshop is designed for PE teachers on strategies to adopt EPE teaching approaches, the goal of which is to increase moderate-to-vigorous physical activity to 50% of class time through changes in curriculum and course work such as teaching strategies; and physical education lesson plans that incorporate fitness and circuit training activities, with specific units on the new SLS and new fitness testing policies. This program will help address the issue of physical activity in the following ways:
1. Teachers will increase MVPA levels in PE classes, helping students meet the recommended 60 minutes a day of physical activity and lowering their risk of developing chronic diseases,
2. Teachers will have a better ability to educate and provide students tools and strategies to realize the lifetime benefits of fitness and healthy behaviors as required by the new state learning standards,
3. Properly administering fitness tests to help students set individual fitness goals and meaningfully use student fitness data to improve PE programming to better meet student needs.
Participants will leave the training with a full set of resources including fitness testing protocols, the revised SLS and Performance Descriptors, and much more.
